The Quran portrays the moment of death of sinners and evil-doers like this:
1- “The unjust, who will be seized by the angels, will submit themselves, obey, and say, ‘We were not evil-doers.’ But God certainly knows what they had been doing.” (Verse 28 of Surah An-Nahl)
Yes, someone who has been engaged in lying and deceitfulness all his life, does not abandon it even at the moment of death and tries to tell lies to angels and God in the most sensitive moments.
2- “Who is more harmful than he who invents a lie about Allah, or says: ‘It has been revealed to me,’ when nothing has been revealed to him? Or he who says: ‘I will send down the like of what Allah has sent down!’ Would that you could see the harmdoers when death overwhelms them! With hands outstretched, the angels (will say): ‘Yield up your souls. You shall be recompensed with a humiliating punishment this Day, for you have said of Allah what is untrue and you grew proud against His verses.”? (Verse 93 of Surah Al-Anaam)
This king of dying happens for two reasons: Lying about God and not submitting to His signs.
In this verse, the word Qamarat, which means death overwhelms evil-doers, and the phrase ‘yield up your soul’ show the hardship and humiliation that evil-doers go through at the moment of death.
3- “And when they had forgotten that with which they have been admonished, We opened the gates of everything to them, until just as they were rejoicing in what they were given, We suddenly seized them and they were in utter despair.” (Verse 44 of Surah Al-Anaam)
Such people keep moving on the wrong path and nothing prevents them from doing it, even warnings, incidents and lessons of divine messengers.
4- “If you could see the angels when they carry off the souls of the unbelievers, beating their faces and their backs, saying: ‘Taste the punishment of Burning!” (Verse 50 of Surah Al-Anfal)
In another verse, God says: “How terrible it will be for them when the angels take away their souls by striking their faces and their backs.” (Verse 27 of Surah Muhammad)
5- “And the angels who take those who wronged themselves will say: ‘In what condition were you?’ They will reply, ‘We were oppressed in the land.’ They (the angels) will say: ‘Was not the earth of Allah wide enough for you in order that you migrate in it?’ Those, their shelter will be Gehenna (Hell), an evil arrival.” (Verse 97 of Surah An-Nisa)
So angels talks to evil-doers at the moment of death, criticizing them for not having moved away from sins.
